NSW Department of Community Services provides care and accommodation for people with various disabilities.  CoAssociates Pty Ltd have provided major redevelopment of facilities for people with mental disabilities at three DOCS sites:

• Stockton Centre

• Kanangra Centre  - Units 9 & 3 and Units 2 & 10

• Tomaree Centre

These projects required existing buildings to be modified to provide:

• Staged processes, typically whilst retaining at least part occupation by the clients, through the construction process.

• Conformity with current accommodation philosophies for such clients.

• "Typical" residential scale with individual  bedrooms and small group living and dining rooms with residential scale garden exteriors.

• Air-conditioning to provide 100% fresh air supply at all times

• Conformity with higher than regulatory fire safety provisions including smoke exhaust with the air conditioning

• "Non apparent" security related to the particular clients needs

• Review and upgrading of total site electrical supply including emergency back up systems.

• Minimal costs

• Interior finishes to enhance the residential aspect and including variety of finishes that provide minimal maintenance and appropriate functional performance.

• Control facilities for staff, with ease of operation and minimsing appearances.
