Toronto
Music Pavilion
Perhaps
more a civic rather than Tourist project, but with intention for more
tourist activity for Toronto. Similar reference is also made under
"Competition" projects.
Fundamental
to this project were:
-
Minimal
cost
-
Optimum
enhancement with the Main Street Vista
-
Capability
for simple construction
-
Capacity
for substantial Orchestra/Band
-
Capacity
for flexible audience numbers up to some hundreds of persons for
civic functions
-
Storage
for equipment and provision of Electrical/PA systems
The
solution involved creating a "frame" for the Main Street
vista, generally open planning with simple but curved brick walls and
having a roof reminiscent of the Sailing boats on the water beyond.

Designed
as a major highlight for the northward journey from Sydney/Newcastle
to Coffs Harbour/Brisbane, the site of this project is located
immediately against the river near its entrance, and immediately
visible from the Pacific Highway. Since the site was within the
environmentally sensitive region of Coffs Harbour and in order to
provide a unique design for this project, the project was arranged
to conform with the general contour lines with minimal height and
thus providing an outlook to the waterfront from every Unit whilst
minimizing construction costs. The real trick was to also minimize
access distances to the Entrance Lobby, Dining spaces and other
common facilities. The Dining included a first class a la carte
Kitchen and the overall capability for four star rating. At this
stage, the project has complete construction documents, including
all Engineering input but is in abeyance due to change in tourist
activities. |
